What is Moringa Oil?
Let’s talk about why we love Moringa oil.
I first discovered Moringa during a trip to Cuba. While I’ve been there before for medical exchange trips, this trip was to enjoy the country as a tourist, and to connect with their vibrant Afro-Cuban culture. Our trip brought us to an organic farm, where they were growing a plant that I couldn’t recognize. I was told it was Moringa, which had been imported from Africa and used to make an antioxidant-rich tea that helps with longevity.
Upon coming back home, I looked into the plant more, and found that Moringa is well-known for being packed with vitamins and minerals, and is used in many skincare preparations in African and Asian countries. It’s backed by science, too! In the past couple of years, there has been a growing interest in studying the benefits of Moringa for skin, with promising results.
Moringa Oil comes from the seeds of the Moringa Tree. It is native to India but has been adopted across the world and was used and valued by the ancient Egyptians. Moringa is now grown across Asia, Africa and the Caribbean, and the oil is a versatile problem solver for all skin types, including acne-prone and/or aging skin. Moringa oil is extracted from the Moringa oleifera trees’ seeds. The seeds are first harvested, then cleaned and dried in order to be cold pressed, which extracts the oil. After extraction, the oil is put through a filtering process to clear it of debris, then bottled.
Since ancient times, the oil has been used in traditional medicine and cosmetics. The oil was used to cure skin ailments like rashes, wounds, and burns in India, and was also used to protect skin from the harsh desert environment in ancient Egypt. As a result of its hydrating, anti-inflammatory, and anti-aging characteristics, it is still used in many skincare regimens today.
What Does Moringa Oil Do For Your Skin?
Moringa oil is a potent item to include in your skincare routine, as it is a rich source of vitamins and antioxidants. It contains high amounts of Vitamin C, which helps to brighten the skin and lessen the appearance of black spots. It also has Vitamin E, a strong antioxidant that helps shield skin from environmental harm, is also present.
The oil is also rich in fatty acids, which help to nourish and moisturize the skin. These fatty acids include oleic acid, which has anti-inflammatory properties, and linoleic acid, which helps to improve skin barrier function.
Moringa oil is often compared to other popular oils such as argan oil, olive oil, and coconut oil. While each of these oils has its own unique benefits, Moringa oil stands out due to its lightweight texture and high concentration of antioxidants. It is also less comedogenic than coconut oil, which means it is less likely to clog pores.

Why is Moringa Oil Good for Skin?
Like many natural oils, Moringa is packed with antioxidants including vitamins C and E, which have anti-inflammatory and calming properties—great for sensitive skin! In addition, these antioxidants curb the activity of skin-damaging free radicals and slow the aging process. Vitamin C boosts collagen and elastin production in your skin, which reduces wrinkles and prevents skin sagging. But the benefits don’t stop there, this antioxidant rich oil also helps fade blemishes and dark spots.
Moringa stands out among our favorite oils because of its sun protection properties. The International Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences released a report on Moringa Oil, which reported the oil has “good sunscreen activity and can be considered an active sunscreen agent or can be incorporated into other sunscreen formulations as an additive to enhance the activity.” This does not mean that you should use Moringa in place of a sunscreen, but it does help protect your skin from the sun.
Additionally, the moisturizing abilities of this oil are one of its most noteworthy advantages. Oleic, linoleic, and palmitic acids are among the important fatty acids found in moringa oil that aid to moisturize and nourish the skin. The protective barrier that Moringa oil creates on the skin after topical application aids in retaining moisture and halting water loss, leaving the skin feeling supple, smooth, and soft. Moringa oil is a natural emollient that may be used on even the most sensitive skin types, unlike many commercial moisturizers that include synthetic chemicals.
Moringa Oil Benefits for Your Face
Antioxidants found in abundance in moringa oil aid in the battle against free radicals that produce oxidative stress, a major factor in aging. Additionally, the nutrients in this oil are abundant and support the synthesis of collagen, a protein that keeps the skin elastic and firm. As we age, our bodies produce less collagen, which causes our skin to sag and develop fine lines and wrinkles. You might be able to increase collagen formation by using Moringa oil to the skin, giving you a more youthful and radiant appearance. Additionally, it can help make wrinkles and fine lines less noticeable, giving the skin a smoother, more toned appearance.
In addition to having anti-aging benefits, Moringa oil also has antibacterial qualities that make it a fantastic natural treatment for skin that is prone to acne. Bacteria that grow in skin pores frequently cause acne by causing irritation and outbreaks. As a result of the components in Moringa, which have been demonstrated to combat harmful germs, acne is less common and clearer skin is encouraged. Furthermore, because of its anti-inflammatory and collagen-boosting qualities, Moringa oil can aid in minimizing the appearance of acne scars. Regular application of the oil will help your skin look younger and more vibrant while also enhancing its general health and appearance.
